Message So, last Friday I worked a little late and was comming home from work, on a road I have taken many, many times. Usually ppl drive about 35-40 mph on this stretch of road that runs parallel to the interstate (under it, actually), then crosses under it and merges onto it right before a tunnel.

As I'm driving I notice a speed limit sign (swear it was teh first time I'd seen it) for 25 mph. I'm thinking to myself, that's a stupid slow speed limt, and ignore it. So I'm driving 45-ish and up ahead under the interstate I see a marked patrol car pulled up talking to an undercover car. I had the T-tops out, windows down, dressed in kakhi's and a long-sleeve oxford shirt. I had sunglasses on, but they could tell I saw them, even from a good distance away. I took note of them but didn't change my speed......

As I pass them lights start blazing in my rear view mirror. So I pull over right where the ramp is to get on the interstate. One cop walks up on each side of the car. The cop on my side says the usual "I pulled you over for radaring you at 46 in a 25 zone, can I see your driver's license, please." and I oblige. I'm thinking this is going to be pretty expensive..... Anyway I try yo play it off: "What? Where's a 25 zone?" and the cop says "This road right here." So I reply (incredulously) "you mean this road, this one right here I drive on almost any day is *only* a 25 zone??" He says "Yes, sir." and walks back to his car. Damn, that didn't work too well I'm thinking.

So, in my mirror I see him start walking back towards me and I hear his radio reading off my name ans street adress. I'm waiting for the ticket to come through the window when I see my driver's license being handed to me. And the cop says........

I sat there is shock for a second, then figured I'd better scoot while things were good. I put it in gear, signaled, checked my mirrors and started to pull away. Suddenly I had a psuedo panic attack. Surely I misunderstood him and he is going to shoot me for driving away?? I look backwards through the open window and see him slowly walking back to his car. Nope, he let me go. No lecture, no warning, no "slow down", no nothing.

Un-fricking-believable.

This sort of thing NEVER happens to me. Usually if I have to talk to someone in uniform the worst case scenario inevitably happens, lol.

Anyway, I'm happy, and I'll be driving a lot more slowly on that stretch of road. Thank you Mr. Officer for having some compassion and not throwing the book at me. Sometimes a little honey works better than vinegar.

Mike
